When it comes to the tech industry, India has been making waves since the 20th century and it is not going slow anytime soon. We all know that the words technology and software automatically make us think of “Silicon Valley”, but you might not know this; India is the Silicon Valley of the Asian continent, after Singapore. This fame of India brings foreign tech business to the region. It is one of the reasons that services of a Hindi translation company become necessary for these foreign businesses. It is because in order to capture the attention of the people in the true sense, it is important to speak to them in their language. One more thing to add here is that Bangalore is actually called the Silicon Valley of India. Isn’t that great?

In this article, we will talk about the importance of Indian vernacular languages in detail. Other than that, we will also explain how India is a giant in the tech industry. So embrace yourself for this interesting journey where you will be bombarded with a lot of information!

The Increasing Number of Internet Users in India

More than 820 million are active Internet users in India. Among these more than 442 million are from rural areas only. So there is literally no distinction between rural and urban tech users in India especially when it comes to the Internet. Talking about the status of 2024, India boasts more than 1.2 billion active Internet users. The internet penetration rate goes above 80%. This translates to a surge of 78% in just the past year. So now you get the idea why India is claiming the top spot in the tech field. And this is just the number of Internet users. The extent of revolutions and inventions in which India is involved is beyond measure, you can say uncountable.

The key drivers of this enhancing number are the increase in smartphone users and the “Digital Literacy initiative”. Easy access to smartphones because of the budget-friendly prices is one reason behind the surge in Internet usage while Digital Literacy is an initiative by the Indian government. “Digital India” plays a vital role in promoting digital literacy in the country as well as empowers citizens to use the power of the Internet for education and business reasons.

Indian Vernacular and the Use of the Internet

Indian vernacular consists of majority and minority languages that are spoken in India. Do you know more than 120 languages and 19,500 dialects are actively spoken in India? Today, with the business and tech revolutions all over the world, people prefer content in their native languages. So is the case with the Indian audience. Why do you think there are billions of Internet users in India alone? It is because they can access the Internet in their native language. Indian vernacular languages include Bengali, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Dogri, Kannada, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Punjabi, Santali, Urdu and so many others. And let’s not forget the enormous amount of dialects which make India the most famous country in Asia. The shift towards vernacular language on the Internet is causing a dynamic increase in the digital audience.

How Indian Vernacular Influences the Internet Users?

As we have already discussed, native languages have a tendency to attract users towards them. For instance, if you are in a foreign country and someone talks to you in your native language, won’t that give you a sense as if you are close to home? This same sense is perceived by the Indian audience when they can access the internet in their native languages other than some foreign languages, such as English.

    Increase in Content Consumption

More than 50% of Internet users like to read content in their native language. So when Indian audiences which mainly speak Hindi along with other languages, find content in their languages, they tend to read it more. This step enhances content consumption and also increases the search for vernacular content. The credit goes to a certified translation company that translates the content accurately and with context as per the demands and requirements of the target audiences.

    Economic Opportunities

When businesses translate their content into, let’s say, Hindi, it becomes easier for them to address the Hindi seeking communities. And this brings a rush in their revenue generation. Hence, it opens economic opportunities for the brands.

Gives Audience A Sense of Belonging

When Indians read something in their language, it sparks emotions. It allows them to see you as someone who prioritizes their needs. This puts the audience in a higher spot and they feel more attracted and inspired.

    An Opportunity For Foreign Businesses

The rise in vernacular content on the web benefits businesses and brands the most. Now why is that? It is because it helps brands to cater to the audience in their language which immediately grabs the audience’s attention. The expanding market of India further enhances the need for vernacular web content. It is expected that soon India will take over China in terms of population and ecommerce scenario.

With the rise in translation technology, businesses can go for machine translation (MT) solutions to translate their content into multiple Indian languages at once. In this way, they can cater to the large multilingual audience in India alone. If not MT, business organizations can also hire translators from a certified translation company and get 100% accurate translation solutions.

    Information Technology in India

India created its position in the IT industry with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the 1970s. Later, Bangalore emerged as the “Silicon Valley of India”, which further strengthened the Indian IT sector. And today, Indian universities are producing tech giants and IT professionals who are making their mark all over the world. Hence, India is surely way ahead of many developed countries with its blooming tech industries. The rise of vernacular content in India urges other businesses to translate their content so that they can enter the evergreen Indian market and go global.

    Final Words!

The increase in vernacular content consumption in India is one reason behind the greater demand for translation. It creates economic opportunities for foreign businesses so that they can enter the lucrative Indian market and charm the Indians with their translated content. On the other hand, it gives the audience a sense of belonging. Translated vernacular content showcases that audience matters for the businesses and they are putting them in the first place.
