Lineage OS 15 is the latest version of the most widely used custom ROM for Android. It is so popular that ROMS like Resurrection Remix are based on the Lineage sources. The development for Lineage OS 15 started ever since Google released the official Android 8.0.0 Oreo for Nexus and Pixel devices. The official Lineage OS 15 builds are not yet available and it may take another month to roll out. However, developers and contributors have deployed unofficial Lineage OS builds based on Android 8.0 Oreo AOSP sources. Here is a collection of LineageOS 15 ROM ports for several supported Android devices.

Lineage OS was formerly called CyanogenMod which was later discontinued by the developers. Lineage Org. is separate from Cyanogen Inc. now. However, the foundation is based on the same old CyanogenMod. So you can say just the name has changed. Not so long ago, the first build of Lineage was deployed with the LOS 14.1 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. A lot of devices from several manufactures support the latest version of LineageOS.

We have come a long way into developing the Android operating system. We have moved from the conventional ClockworkMod CWM recovery to a more advanced TWRP recovery. We have moved from SuperSU to Magisk for rooting any Android device. Latest Xposed now supports Android 7.1.2 Nougat on stock and Lineage OS 14.1. Most important is the transition of AOSP from Android 5.0 Lollipop to latest 8.0 Oreo.

How to install LineageOS 15 ROM onto any Android phone?

Install LineageOS 15 ROM as you will install any Android device. procedure is the same as that of any other custom ROM like the official Resurrection Remix. Make sure your Android device has an unlocked bootloader and a custom TWRP recovery installed. Grab the latest Lineage OS build from above and flash it via TWRP recovery.

Requirements

• Make sure your Android phone’s Bootloader is unlocked. (Not every Android device can be unlocked using the same procedure) So research.
• Download latest Gapps package for Lineage OS (Google Apps)

Lineage OS 14 ROMS need separate Gapps package. Download them and follow the instructions from below.

Flash latest Magisk to root Lineage OS 15
The latest Magisk package can root Lineage OS 15 based on Android 8.0.0 Oreo.

LineageOS 15 installation method
Step 1: Make sure you go through the requirements from above.

Step 1: Download the LineageOS 15 ROM, compatible Google Apps, and Magisk package for root access.

Step 2: Transfer all the files to your device’s internal storage or SDcard.

Step 3: Reboot into TWRP recovery. To do so, Power off the device completely and then press and hold the power button and volume down key for a few seconds.

Step 3: Take a full Nandroid backup from TWRP. Backup partitions like system, data, boot, recovery, EFS and cache(optional).

Step 4: Wipe the current system or factory reset. Wipe data, system, etc. DO NOT WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE.

Step 5: Go to homescreen and Tap on Install option. Select the Lineage OS ROM zip file.

Step 6: Confirm flash.

Step 7: Similarly, flash the Gapps.

Step 8: Reboot to system.

How to Root LineageOS 15 based on Android 8.0 Oreo?
By this time you should have booted into the system. The fact that we aren’t rooting the system right after we flash the Lineage OS is because, it may cause bootloop. To be certain that the bootloop isn’t caused by the Magisk package. Magisk supports the latest Oreo firmware. However, it does not mean it should support all the Android phones.

Magisk lets you bypass SafetyNet, hide root and also hide the Magisk app itself.

Download the latest Magisk v14

Flash the Magisk zip via TWRP in order to root LineageOS 15. Once that is done, reboot into system and install the latest Magisk Manager to grant root access to applications.
